February 14 Foundations of Van Kaam's Trancendence Therapy Presenter: Sr. Donna Marie Beck, CSJ, Ph.D., FAMI, MT-BC 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Offering: $50.00for CEU applicants $35.00 for all others. Continuing Education Units offered for Registered Nurses, Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors.

This seminar addresses the dynamics of transcendence therapy as developed by Dr. Adrian Van Kaam. Trancendence therapy invites participants to focus on the dynamics of human growth, development and maturation. This seminar will use music to develop the participants understanding of this therapy in individual and group work.

May 17 through 21 "Menuha Retreat"
Coming to a place of stillness and inner peace —a group-guided retreat for Christian women and men. Sr. Carole Riley, CDP, PhD., LPC, AAPC-Fellow, director of the West Virginia Institute of Spirituality, and Sr. Charlene Schaaf, CDP, will lead this group.  The retreat offers daily conferences; contemplative prayer; guided prayer materials; individual consultation and prayer rituals.
Location: St. Malo Retreat Center, Allenspark, CO (near Estes Park).

June 26 through July 11  Almost Heaven 2009 Personally Directed Retreat Presented by The West Virginia Institute for Spirituality in partnership with Blessed  John XXIII Retreat Center, Charleston, WV. Individuals can register for a weekend or a 3,5,7,8,10 or 15 day directed retreat. A private room and bath will be available to you. Accomodations for the handicapped are available.

The Pastoral Center is air-conditioned and is a non-smoking facility. There is an elevator to the second floor guest rooms. Cost is $70.00 per day. Massage therapy is available for retreatants for an additional fee. Call WVIS at 345-0926 or email wvisreg@aol.com for details and to register.

July 3-10 "WV Institute for Spirituality Certificate in Supervision" Ministry of Supervision and Practicum held in conjunction with the Almost Heaven Retreat at Blessed John XXIII Pastoral Center, Charleston, West Virginia. Tuition $400.

September - November Sabbatical Program

This Sabbath time is a grace-filled time for rest, prayer and study. The program is from one to three months, designed for those in ministry or in transition. Included are opportunities for an eight to thirty day directed Ignatian retreat, contemplative prayer, art, massage, hermit experience and spiritual direction. Courses include Ira Progoff journaling techniques, art therapy, music therapy, counseling, 12 step groups, and an opportunity to just BE through directed reading and participating in the monastic rhythm of the Institute. The program is open to United States and International men and women, clergy and laity, members of religious communities. It is a Sabbath time for enrichment and reflection. September 11-12 "Theory of Spiritual Direction" Historical models and contemporary styles of spiritual direction including corresponding lectures, readings and assignments dealing with spiritual reading, lectio divin, in relation to the formative and transformative power of the word; the reading of Holy Scripture in a meditative and formative way; and the writings of the spiritual masters as original sources of ascetical-mystical theology. Issues of discernment, transference, and countertransference are discussed. Classes: 2:30 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. Accommodations are available for out of town students for an additional fee. Tuition: $1,000 per semester, $1800 for 19th Annotation Retreat plus books.

September 18-19 "Advanced Peer Supervision" This course focuses on self as spiritual director in actual direction sessions. Being attentive to and aware of one's interior reactions, thoughts and feelings of self, in order to eventually understand them is emphasized. The practice of giving individual spiritual direction and receiving and giving peer and individual supervision are important parts of this course. Classes: 2:30 p.m. through 9:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. through 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.

September 19 "Renewal of Mind, Body and Spirit" for Health Care Professionals. Registration 8:45 a.m. Program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (lunch is included) CEU's for Registered Nurses, Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors. Call (304) 345-0926 to register.
